Spin from contact with Johnson leaves Kyle Busch fiery on radio

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – Kyle Busch went for a spin in his No. 18 Toyota early in the first Gander RV Duel race following what appeared to be contact with the No. 48 Chevrolet of Jimmie Johnson.

The seven-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion offered an apology over the radio — one which Busch did not accept.

“I don’t want to (expletive) hear it,” Busch radioed to his team when told of Johnson’s apology. “Use his damn eyeballs. It’s twice he’s done the same thing in two (expletive) races.”

Busch’s reference was to the Advance Auto Parts Clash last weekend, where Johnson and Paul Menard made contact as weather was approaching – contact that sent Menard’s No. 21 Ford spinning, and eventually sent Johnson to the win in the preseason race as weather forced it to be called early.

“Apologize to the 18,” Johnson said, which set off Busch’s reply. “I assume that’s on me. Got to see the video first. I don’t know what happened.”

Menard offered a similarly icy reply after The Clash.

“Jimmie pulled down, I moved down a little bit, and the next thing I knew I’m getting turned in the left rear,” Menard said. “Jimmie does that a lot at these tracks. It’s unfortunate.”

Menard and Johnson discussed the incident prior to Daytona 500 Media Day earlier this week and said they both had moved on.
