Logano wins at Las Vegas; Team Penske goes 1-2

Brad Keselowki got a big run on the final lap, but wasn’t able to close the gap on his Team Penske teammate Joey Logano, who held on for the checkered flag in Sunday’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The final laps in the desert saw a battle between two veteran drivers, as they traded the lead in the waning cycles; Keselowski threw his No. 2 into the mix at Lap 240 when he used a slidejob to pass Logano’s No. 22. But the reigning champion took it back four laps later as Keselowski fought lapped traffic, holding on for his first victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway — and of the 2019 season.

Keselowski — who won at Atlanta Motor Speedway last weekend under flu-like symptoms — crossed the start-finish line second, marking a 1-2 finish for Team Penske.

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch battled back from an early speeding penalty to finish third in his No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. Busch was going for the weekend sweep, as he won both the Xfinity and Gander Outdoors Truck Series races this weekend at his home track of Las Vegas. Polesitter Kevin Harvick pulled in a fourth-place result in his No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford, while Kurt Busch’s No. 1 Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet rounded out the top five.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. enjoyed a strong run after starting inside the top 10, his No. 17 Roush Fenway Racing Ford running near the front of the field the majority of the day. He ended the day sixth.

Harvick won Stage 1, while Logano took the Stage 2 victory.

Pit road penalties for Austin Dillon — who led both practice sessions — and Kyle Larson put both cars in early holes in the desert.

The Monster Energy Series is back on track on Sunday, March 10 at ISM Raceway (3:30 p.m. ET, FOX).
